We continued to work on our Linear Relations Unit and went over the material from 10-1 and 10.2 in the textbook.  We also looked at the start of 10.4, identifying Direct and Partial Variations.

Important Info so far:

  • slope = rate of change
  • Equation y = mx + b, where m = slope and b = y-intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis, when x = 0)
  • Direct Variations contain the origin as a point (0,0), when x = 0, y also = 0 and can be written by the equation     y = mx
  • Partial Variations have a value for y when x = 0.  The y-intercept is not at (0,0).  Partial variations can be written by the equation y= mx + b

Due Dates:

  • Ch 10 Mid-Chapter Review  – Thursday, Dec 11
  • CH 10 Take home quiz – Mon. Dec 14 – no late quizzes accepted.
  • FINAL EXAM – covers all material Thursday, Dec. 18 9:00-11:30

On Friday, we will look at poems by Canadian poets who write differently about the Canadian landscape.

The package also contains a questions for formal essay data collection. These sets of questions are intended to help students prepare for the poetry essay.  There is also a poetry essay template and two sets of editing questions to answer before you submit your essay.

We focused on continuing to work on solving our triangles today.  Students who had submitted their Mid chapter Review assignment had it returned and they were able to resubmit several of the questions for more marks after we went over what needed to be done.

We reviewed 9.2 and 9.4 again, as people are struggling with which trig function to use and how to substitute into the trig function and solve the resulting math equation.

Tomorrow we will hand in 9.4 hand in assignment and we will work through the chapter review.  We must write the unit  test on Thursday, Dec 4.

ELA A30 – Dec 1

We concluded Unit 1 today by finishing our discussion on “Canadian Gothic” and by looking at the Big Questions from Unit 1.  We wrote the Unit 1 quiz.

Brenda will have your exams.  Joe, Renee, and Devin you will have to write at noon unless you have a work period that you can use, or you wish to write during our second period on Tuesday.

Today we continued to work with problems involving two triangles. There is a hand in assignment to go with this section.  Tomorrow we will be working on the chapter review and we will write the chapter exam on Wed. Dec 3.

ASMTS:

  • 9.4 hand out

ELA A30 – Nov 28

Today we will read the last piece of literature for Unit 1.  “Canadian Gothic” is a play written by a Saskatoon playwright in the 1970’s.  It contains evidence of racism and racial language that is intended to shock the viewer. The story is of a family, a broken marriage, an early death and the choices of naive young people.

There are questions we will look at as we read through the play.

We will write a short quiz on Monday at 2:00 to wrap up Unit 1: Canadian Perspectives: Distinct and Rich.  It will contain multiple choice questions regarding main idea, author and genre of the literature we have read so far , identifying independent and subordinate clauses and a 2 paragraphs.

The quiz will be written starting at 2:00.
